An Easy Way to Bring a Smile this Christmas…

Bernard¹ is a great buddy of mine. He used to be a child soldier. He had ten siblings, and he’s the only one still alive because of war and disease. He’s doing stunning work with us, a total legend! But he’s one of many wondering how to get through the festive season:

Dear Simon,

Thank you so much for your support to us throughout this hard year. I am so grateful to GLO, indeed your contributions have saved many lives. God bless you!

As we approach Christmas, this is the hardest year I can remember since the genocidal years. Because of the Congolese war, just 25km away, and refugees coming across in their thousands, food prices continue to rise horribly. Imagine my £75/month salary last year, now with inflation is only worth £53/month². And I have to try to feed my wife and three children with that…

My staff too are desperate. Please, as with other years, can I ask GLO for a Christmas bonus to bless them? Otherwise it will be like every other day of the year, just another hard day to get through. But with your gift, we can maybe eat some meat, drink a soda, buy the kids some sweets, and laugh together. I long to see joy in my children’s eyes.

Maybe you can, maybe you can’t. Forgive me for asking. We love and thank God for you. Happy Christmas to you, the GLO team, and your family!

I have never struggled to give my loved ones presents and food on Christmas Day. I can’t imagine not being able to bring my kids joy, or what Bernard and most of them are going through.

I’m longing to bless our partners and all their staff teams! You may have seen the M23 rebels’ advance, and the spillover, which has made distressing reading in the news this last week. Things are desperate.

So we plan to give each family (just under 1000) the equivalent of £40 to bring them some Christmas cheer amidst all the grimness of life in Burundi.

Would you like to give to one family, or three, five or ten? Zero pressure, but if you want to spread the joy, click here.

And come Thursday, I’ll be thinking of 6000+ precious Burundian brothers and sisters tucking into some meat and enjoying a fizzy drink, which brings a smile to my face!

Your support is not just about money – it reminds our team on the front line that they are remembered by people across the globe. That means the world to them!
